The Enzo Ferrari was offically launched in July 2002 at Paris Auto Show. It was named after the company's founder, Enzo Ferrari. It was designed by Formula One technology and claims to be a F1 car for the road. The Enzo Ferrari is powered by a V12 engine which generates 660bhp at 7800rpm and 485 lbf of torque. It was designed by Ken Okuyama under Pininfarina.
At the 2002 Paris Auto Show it was announced that there would be a limited production of 349 units of the Enzo Ferrari. They were initially priced at $643,330. The interest was high and all units were sold even before the production begun. Upon numberous requests to increase the production numbers an extra 50 cars where produced bringing the Enzo's total to 399.
A special 400th Enzo was built to be auctioned off for the 2004 Tsunami survivors fund. The car was auctioned at Sotherby's for a price of $1,274,229. To buy an Enzo Ferrari these days, on the market, it costs in the region of $1m.
The F1 technology in the Enzo Ferrari includes such things as the carbon fiber chassis, the aluminum honeycomb panels, a continuously variable intake manifold and variable valve timing.
